Who is scurrying so quickly up the tree trunk? Squirrels are the undisputed acrobats of the forest and delight children with their fluffy tails and beady eyes. They are a popular motif, especially in autumn, when they eagerly collect nuts. A squirrel coloring picture brings the cozy atmosphere of the forest directly to the craft table and invites you to discover nature in the most beautiful colors.
By coloring in the coloring pages, children can learn a lot about these fascinating animals. What color is a squirrel actually? Are they always red or are there also brown and gray ones? The pictures show the rodents in action: climbing, hiding acorns or leisurely nibbling a hazelnut. The detailed fur and bushy tails provide a great opportunity to experiment with different line styles.

Instructions for squirrel coloring pages
In order to make the squirrels’ fur look particularly realistic, the right technique is crucial. Instead of simply coloring in the area, children can work with many small, short strokes. This imitates the hair structure and makes the tail look nice and “fluffy”.
When it comes to colors, there are no limits to your imagination, but classic autumn tones fit best. A warm reddish brown, chestnut brown or dark gray are typical colors. For the environment – the forest – different shades of green can be used for leaves or yellow and orange for autumn leaves. A tip: Paint the nut that the squirrel is holding a light shade of brown so that it stands out against the fur.

6 creative ideas with squirrel coloring pages
The 3D fluffy tail This is where we make crafts! Color in the squirrel but leave the tail exposed. Instead, glue orange wool, crumpled crepe paper, or dyed cotton to the tail surface. This makes the picture not only colorful, but also cuddly soft.
Collage with real leaves Before painting, go outside and collect small, dry leaves. These can then be glued to the paper around the colored squirrel. This creates a work of art that combines nature and painting.
Window pictures for autumn Coat the back of the finished picture thinly with cooking oil. The paper becomes transparent. If you hang the squirrel on the window, it will glow beautifully in the autumn sun.
Nut search game Paint lots of small pictures of nuts and acorns and hide them (as paper cutouts) in the children’s room. The child has to find all the supplies like a squirrel. As a reward there is the big squirrel coloring picture.
Autumn garland Cut out several painted squirrels and thread them onto a string, alternating with cut-out leaves or real pine cones. This garland brings a forest atmosphere to every room.
Create a profile Use the image as a cover for an animal profile. Children can write down (perhaps with help) what squirrels eat, where they sleep (Kobel) and how they spend the winter.
Painting by numbers with squirrels
Since squirrels are often well camouflaged in nature, “Paint by Numbers” helps to distinguish the animal from the background. The children learn which shades of brown should be used for the trunk of the tree and which for the animal’s fur to create a harmonious forest image.
